 | SN-ICC to Offer College Scholarships, High School Internship | | On October 7, the Public Outreach Committee met with Shana Venenga and Kelli Grimm with the Public Education Foundation to formulate the college scholarships to be offered by SNICC. The chapter will be offering four annual $3000 scholarships, renewable each year if the student maintains a 2.5 GPA.
The eligibility criteria will be finalized in the next few weeks, but the preliminary requirements will be:
- Must attend a college located in Southern Nevada.
- Must be enrolled in the College of Engineering, construction management, architecture or public administration.
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
The Public Outreach Committee is also finalizing the High School Internship Program. Clark County and the city of North Las Vegas have agreed to participate in the program, which will focus on five Clark County School District magnet schools. The two tracks being proposed are engineering/technology and information technology. The tentative dates for the program are February 7 through April 1, 2011. This timeframe will allow eight weeks for each student to accumulate thirty hours (two days per week, 2 hours per day) of shadowing various code enforcement personnel in the following fields:
- Civil/Structural Engineering/Design
- Fire Protection Engineering/Design
- Electrical Engineering/Design
- Building Design
- Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering/Design
- Information Technology
- Permit Technicians
We are also hoping to partner with a local mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm to participate in our High School Internship Program. Please contact SN-ICC President Neil Burning if you're interested in partnering. Neil can be reached by phone at 455-8020 or by e-mail at nburning@co.clark.nv.us. |
 | Reaching Out to Architects | On October 20, the Public Outreach Committee (pictured at left: Ray Finkel, Valarie Loper and Kevin McOsker) manned our exhibitor booth during the AIA Las Vegas "Learn About - Turn About" product show, held at the Historic Fifth Street School.
The product show was a huge success! Gary Eddington, from SH Architecture, won a gift certificate from the Chapter for a 2011 Industry Associate membership (including free lunch).
Our volunteers handed out information about the chapter, our programs and EduCode 2011. Thanks Valarie, Kevin and Ray!! |
