SN-ICC's Website Has a New Look!
SN-ICC's website, www.snicc.org, has been completely overhauled.

New features have been added to the site, including:

  • Advertising opportunities for industry.
  • An employment page listing local job opportunities.
  • A members only section.
  • SN-ICC book and merchandise store!

Soon members will be able to purchase discounted code books through our website!

All individuals with a paid Chapter membership will also soon receive an e-mail from SN-ICC President Neil Burning with an initial password to log into the website's members only section.  You will then re-set your password to one of your choosing.  This section of the website will provide access to SN-ICC's training seminar archives, among other benefits.

In addition, EduCode and the Southern Nevada Building Officials' websites also have new faces.

Visit these new sites to learn what each has to offer.  And don't forget to add them to your favorites for easy access to important building code information and training opportunities!

New Membership Categories, Fees

In recognition of today's difficult economy, SN-ICC's Membership Services Committee studied the Chapter's membership categories and fees and came up with a few suggestions to make becoming an SN-ICC member a little easier.

Based on the Committee's suggestions, the following membership categories and fees are now in place:

  • Government Primary:  $200 - $300 annual dues based on the number of employees within the jurisdiction (dues previously ranged from $200 - $500 based on the jurisdiction's number of employees).
  • Government Employee: $150 annual dues paid by the jurisdiction (this category used to be called Government Secondary).
  • NEW!  Government Associate:  $50 annual dues!!!
  • NEW!  Industry Associate:  $50 annual dues!!!
  • Student: $10 annual dues (no change).
  • Retired:  no annual dues (no change).
  • Honorary:  no annual dues (no change).

The Industry Primary ($250 annual dues) and Industry Secondary ($150 annual dues) membership categories were eliminated and replaced with the new Industry Associate category.  This new membership category is a much more equitable option for industry since only Government Primary, Government Employee or Government Associate members are allowed to vote on Chapter business.

The Government Associate category was developed to encourage government staff to join independent of their employer.  Due to budget constraints, many jurisdictions may only be able to sponsor one or two Government Employee members.  As an alternative, the Government Associate category provides a more reasonable rate for government staff to join SN-ICC if their employer cannot sponsor the membership.

Read more about these new categories and fees on SN-ICC's website.

Lunch Fees to Be Charged at Chapter Meetings

Effective July 1, 2010, all non-members attending SN-ICC monthly meetings will be charged $20 for lunch. SN-ICC will continue to provide free lunches for members throughout the remainder of 2010.

The cost to provide lunches at monthly meetings is approximately $25 per person, for a total of $13,000 billed to the Chapter annually. SN-ICC has been fortunate to greatly subsidize lunches for members and non-members alike for several years.  Although the Chapter will continue to subsidize lunches, non-members and members will be asked to begin contributing to the cost of lunches beginning in January 2011.

At the Chapter's January 2011 monthly meeting, Government Associate, Industry Associate and Retired members will begin paying $10 for lunch at each monthly meeting they attend from that point forward. Non-members will continue to be charged $20 for lunch at each monthly meeting they attend. The annual dues paid by Government Primary and Government Employee members covers the cost of lunches at monthly meetings.  Student and Honorary members will not be charged lunch fees.

Non-members are encouraged to join the Chapter to receive lunch for $10 rather than the higher cost of $20.

Upcoming CEU Opportunities
July 13:  Disaster or Emergency Evaluation of Structures

On July 13, the Chapter will provide "Disaster or Emergency Evaluation of Structures" training.

This four-hour class will be taught by Wesley Walters, certified ICC instructor, and will prepare each jurisdiction to respond effectively and consistently to the typical building emergencies we experience in Nevada.

The cost of this training is $50.00. The Chapter will provide 0.40 CEUs and distribute certification/identification cards to those who complete the training. Pre-registration will be required for this class as space is limited.

June 8: Plan Reading of Electrical Single-Line Diagrams

This class is currently full.  If you've registered, don't forget to attend.

2011 EduCode Class Schedule Almost Set
EduCode

The EduCode steering committee is racing against a June 25, 2010, ICC deadline for finishing up with the class descriptions for the 2011 program. Class descriptions also mean tracking down the slow responding instructors to make commitments to teach. In addition, there are a myriad of other details to lock down before we go can to press with the EduCode brochure. This is not a fun task.

However, the Chapter will be happy to hear that the EduCode Committee has 65% of the 2011 classes "locked-in" for the 2011 EduCode conference. Look for next month's issue of the chapter ICC eNews for the 2011 EduCode "education grid" in its entirety.

To sweeten your training appetite, here are some of the classes we plan to bring to you: "Low Voltage and Limited Energy Wiring Systems," "2011 IAEI NEC Analysis of Change," "Stop in the Name of the Law" and "Social & Economic Responsibility of Code Enforcement." Finally, one of our chapter members, Bob Weber, will present a class on the "Introduction to the International Green Building Code." These classes and another sixty plus classes are in the works.

The EduCode Trade Show Booth at the ICC Annual Business Meeting in Charlotte, NC, has become a victim of the times. During the June 25, 2010, EduCode Steering Committee meeting, the committee felt that, partly due to the cost of renting space, carpeting, etc, and the trouble we will have staffing the booth this year, that it would be better not to exhibit and promote EduCode at the trade show. To make up for this lost advertising, the committee is thinking of placing additional ads on ICC's website and using ICC's e-mail system for direct e-mail marketing.

Can you help us link EduCode to your website?  The committee thinks this year will be the hardest year ever to find students for EduCode. We are looking everywhere. If you or your association has a website on which we can place free advertising or a link to our website, please contact a chapter board member or Bill Laub. And, if you have an idea on how to find students, let us know!

In closing, the EduCode website is also getting a "work over." So, after you have checked out the chapter's new website (story above), click over to the EduCode website and check us out. If you have any ideas about how to improve the EduCode website, please let us know.

See you at EduCode, January 31, 2011 - February 4, 2011.
