A message from the Chairman...
Ken Koehler
County Board Chairman |
Greetings! Thank you once again for subscribing to the McHenry County e-News! We strive to present information to you that keeps you informed about McHenry County.
McHenry County is continuing to monitor the conditions of its current budget. To date, 7 months into our current fiscal year, we are on pace to meet our budget projections and maintain a healthy financial standing. However, as we develop our FY2011 budget, it is important to note the financial condition of the State of Illinois has an impact on McHenry County. The County relies on the State to provide funding for a variety of programs and services. If the State cannot meet its financial obligations, it adds extra fiscal strain to the County's budget. McHenry County Government will continue to meet its financial obligation and provide exceptional services to the citizens of the County even in these financially troubled times.
Sincerly,
Ken Koehler
County Board Chairman |

MCDH Receives Achievement Awards
Congratulations to the McHenry County Department of Health in receiving two National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards!
NACo Achievement Awards are presented annually to Counties that have innovative programs that modernize county government and increase its service to residents. The McHenry County Department of Health was recognized for their "Franchising of Solid Waste Program" and its "H1N1 Volunteer Nurse Recruitment and Utilization Plan".
The Franchising of Solid Waste Program is an economical and environmentally sound alternative for disposal of landscape waste for unincorporated areas. The program includes curbside pick-up of household municipal waste, landscape waste, bulk items and recyclable materials by a single waste hauler (instead of multiple waste haulers). Franchising of solid waste removal services is unique in the Northern Illinois area and is typically only available in municipalities. Read more...
For the H1N1 Volunteer Nurse Recruitment and Utilization Plan, the MCDH was successful in recruiting, credentialing, training and staffing its 41 H1N1 vaccination clinics with over 100 volunteer registered nurses through its Rosie the Riveter "We Can Do It" campaign. Read more...
Congratulations once again to the McHenry County Department of Health on this tremendous accomplishment! |
New Pavement Management System
The McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT) has recently implemented an innovative computerized pavement management system. This system allows the MCDOT to make well informed decisions when committing public funds to potential roadway rehabilitation projects. Although the MCDOT's pavement preservation program has been in effect for some time, the use of a computerized system is a relatively new development within the program. In fact, the MCDOT is among a handful of County transportation agencies within Illinois committed to such an approach. Read more... |
McHenry County Now a Watersense Partner
McHenry County recently became a WaterSenseŽ Partner by demonstrating environmental leadership for their current practices. WaterSenseŽ is a partnership program sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With this partnership, McHenry County will be better able to provide the public with information concerning its water resources. The products that appear with a WaterSenseŽ label have been tested by a third party and reduce water usage while having the same performance as regular appliances. The current list of certified water-saving products includes toilets, faucets, and faucet accessories and can be found on the WaterSenseŽ website, www.epa.gov/watersense. |
McHenry County Green Efforts
McHenry County was recently recognized by the Department of Energy as being one of the top 20 Counties in the nation in utilization of stimulus money for energy efficiency projects and the only county in Illinois to have energy efficient projects completed through the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program.
Within the past year of receiving the grant, McHenry County has implemented part of the grant monies in its Division of Transportation (DOT) garage with the addition of skylights, lighting retrofits, and installation of light occupancy sensors. During a three month review period, McHenry County has seen energy consumption in the DOT garage reduced by 13% compared to this time last year using 10,827 KWH less and saving the County $2,511 in utilities costs.
The County was awarded $2,475,900 on November 11, 2009 to increase energy efficiency throughout McHenry County Government facilities. The EECBG program, funded by the America Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was designed to assist eligible entities to implement strategies to create jobs, reduce total energy use, and improve energy efficiency in county buildings.
