95th Illinois Infantry Regimental Flag
The McHenry County Civil War Roundtable hosted a dedication ceremony for the 95th Illinois Infantry Regimental Flag, prior to the McHenry County Board meeting, on Tuesday, June 15th. During this ceremony, Lt. Col. Mark Whitlock, Director of the Illinois State Military Museum, served as a special guest speaker.
The 95th Illinois Infantry included 1,324 volunteers from both McHenry and Boone County who served from September 4, 1862 until August 17, 1865 when they were released from military duty. The 95th Illinois Infantry traveled over 9,960 miles during the war and saw action in the Siege of Vicksburg (May - July, 1863), the Red River Campaign (March - May, 1864), and Sherman's March (June - September, 1864). We are proud to have this historic flag on display in the second floor lobby of the McHenry County Administration building , 667 Ware Road in Woodstock! |
