Dear Friend of Josiah Hill Clinic,
July has been just bursting with activity.  Everyone is out and about enjoying the paradise that is Portland during the summertime. We at the Clinic are all fueled up on Vitamin D- we have new partners, new projects, and a slew of fun August events to look forward to!
Partners and Projects

Text4BabyJHC is very excited to have two new partners with projects in the works: Text4Baby and Our Health Alliance (website coming soon). Text4Baby is a national public health campaign to improve the lives of pregnant mothers and their brand new little beings, while Our Health Alliance will be an online, interactive resource for Portland area health oriented organizations. JHC was honored to be one of the first members of OHA, and is getting nationwide publicity through the Text4Baby campaign!
Newsflash- Stepping Up in the World!

dhhs logoJHC makes it a point to continually improve- the Clinic is now independently certified by the Department of Health and Human Services to do our blood lead screenings! Huzzah! Also, all three JHC staff members attended the Community Strategic Training Initiative conference this past week and had a blast learning about taking action for community equity.  We have two new press releases out, one celebrating the continuation of the renewal of the CLEARCorps grant, and one highlighting our Healthy Homes Assessment Program.  Last but not least, Communications Specialist Nicole Staudinger has been asked to present in a webinar hosted by the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice about utilizing social media to promote public health! Tune in August 16th.
Festivities
Rifat, her little helpers, and Amina.JHC had the pleasure of attending some super fun outreach events this July.  Program Coordinator Amanda Lawrence held down the fort at the East Portland Expo with generous assistance from volunteers and interns- thanks Jeff, Adam, Berenia and Amina!  Berenia and Amina also reached out at the King Farmer's Market with intern Rifat and her two adorable little helpers.  At the Emerson Street Community Garden Groundbreaking Ceremony, JHC shared resources and celebrated one community's efforts to transform a lead-contaminated deserted lot into a thriving community garden. Pictures from the assorted festivities are available on our Facebook Page.
Our featured events for August include the National Night Out at Argay Park on August 3rd and the Sellwood Community Health Fair on August 7th, not to mention our Volunteer Appreciation Event on August 11th- BBQ in the sunshine on the JHC office patio, anyone?  We'd love to see you there!

Once again, thank you all for taking an interest and for contributing to the Clinic in whatever capacity you do.  If you have volunteered with JHC and haven't yet received an invitation to our Volunteer Appreciation Event, please feel free to contact Nicole!  And be sure to check our website for the latest lead testing clinics, green cleaning workshopshealthy home assessment opportunities, and news updates.  Here's wishing everyone a healthy and happy August to come.

Sincerely,
The Staff
