| St. John's Faith Garden... | |
. . . is now completely planted, thanks to the hard-working volunteers who turned out on the lovely evening of May 16. The May 24 planting date is cancelled. After we planted cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, Pastor Bob led us in prayer asking God's blessing on our garden. We even put a fence around the garden to slow down the rabbits, but it may need to be moved; Pastor Bob is already talking about expanding the garden! Current needs are donations for staking or caging the tomato plants, drip hoses, a scale to weigh produce before it's donated to DMARC, and various garden supplies. Please mark your financial donations "for St. John's Faith Garden", and call Bonnie Ekse at 964-5929 if you have materials or supplies to donate. We can all work together to alleviate childhood hunger in the Greater Des Moines area by 2015. Thank you!

| Adult Forum: May 15 & 22 | Larry Christensen will conduct adult education at 10:00 a.m. The first, May 15th, will be called, "Why St. John's is smaller than it used to be, and why it is no one's fault." The second, May 22nd, will be called "St. John's is smaller than it used to be and why that may be a good thing." Larry's descriptions of the forums are as follows: "The sessions will be a combination of St. John's and Des Moines history, social commentary, Bible study, and theology. While you are all very aware of the down sides of how my mind works, a positive side of my thought process is that I see all sorts of connections in a great big web of meaning. There is hope and every reason to see God's hand at work in the processes that go on around us in seeming chaos. I hope many of you will join me as I think some of this content is food for thought and prayer as we all live into God's future." |
