Meeting time is 12:30 pm and the location is on the east side of the Capitol near Capitol Avenue in the large parking lot. The parade ends on Robert D. Ray Drive near the river. St. John's Faith Garden...

. . . needs gardeners, tools and dollars! We're planting on Monday, May 16 and on Tuesday, May 24. Volunteers may come to the Speirs' home at 5:30 p.m. to begin planting potted vegetable starts. We'll need tools such as trowels and bulb planters to dig holes through the newspaper and compost that was laid last fall. We also need drip hoses for watering; do you have a spare? We welcome monetary contributions for purchasing plant starts and for ongoing garden supplies and equipment. Mark contributions for "St. John's Faith Garden." Produce from SJFC will be donated to the DMARC food pantries to feed hungry children and their families. Another way to contribute is to donate your own excess garden produce to DMARC. Plant some extra rows! Please call Bonnie Ekse, 964-5929, if you're able to plant or contribute tools.

The Des Moines Arts Festival

Art ShowSt. John's has been offered a volunteer opportunity for this year's Des Moines Arts Festival® - June 24th-26th. If your ministry group, book club, or simply friends and/or family would like to volunteer, work and play together visit the website to view the Festival's volunteer opportunities at: www.desmoinesartsfestival.org/volunteer - then click on "volunteer local." You are able to view the job descriptions for each of the opportunities, see how many spots are remaining for each shift, and register your group together. (Please note: we require a minimum age of 16 years old, the Festival is rain or shine event, and lifting objects may be involved.) For help with registration or with questions, contact Angela at atakolbet@downtowndesmoines.com or 515-286-4949.
Adult Forum: May 15 & 22
Adult Forum LarryLarry Christensen will conduct adult education at 10:00 a.m. The first, May 15th, will be called, "Why St. John's is smaller than it used to be, and why it is no one's fault." The second, May 22nd, will be called "St. John's is smaller than it used to be and why that may be a good thing." Larry's descriptions of the forums are as follows: "The sessions will be a combination of St. John's and Des Moines history, social commentary, Bible study, and theology. While you are all very aware of the down sides of how my mind works, a positive side of my thought process is that I see all sorts of connections in a great big web of meaning. There is hope and every reason to see God's hand at work in the processes that go on around us in seeming chaos. I hope many of you will join me as I think some of this content is food for thought and prayer as we all live into God's future."
