| WELCA Update | ► The Women of the ELCA are providing a lunch for $6.00 following the Lenten Noon Worship Services. Lunch is served in Neumann and includes a choice of sloppy joe or egg salad sandwich, soup, salad, a dessert and your drink. Please come join the fellowship.
► The April WELCA outreach project is a collection for CHILDREN AND FAMILIES OF IOWA/FAMILY VIOLENCE CENTER. The congregation is invited to participate in donating. The most urgent needs are: diapers (all sizes, but especially sizes 5 & 6), shampoo, combs, brushes, disposable razors, hair dryers, toothpaste, deodorant, bath towels, wash cloths, twin-size sheets, adult and children's new underwear and socks, new bras, new toys, and medium-size tote bags. Please place in the marked boxes near the office reception desk or in the hallway outside Neumann Hall. Your support is really appreciated! |

Children's Ministry |
► All kids are invited to Sunday School at 9:55. Age 3 years meet in room 5; Preschool-Room 6; Kindergarten-Room 7; first through sixth grade will start in the chapel and then move to their classrooms on 2nd floor.
► Vacation Bible School will be June 27-30 for Kindergarten - Sixth graders. Registrations will be available in May. |

► St John's Moms will be meeting in the nursery for a playdate on Saturday April 9th at 10:00 am. Moms and tots 3 and under are welcome! For more information, please contact Kirsten LaBlanc at 491-0907 or Rachel Corron at 313-6645. ► WIRED Luncheon and Program will be held Sunday, April 10, 12:30 pm at Grand View University, Rasmussen Building. Cost is $20. Our speaker, Kathy Reardon, will talk about "Wired to God." Sign up in the lounge this weekend or online at St. John's website. Reservations need to be made by April 4. (Park in lot north of Rasmussen and enter in the north door.) ► WIRED Night Out will meet at Darla Stiles' house on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 pm for a chocolate party. Call or e-mail Darla if you are interested in attending; 243-7691, darlastiles@stjohnsdsm.org. ► WIRED Book Discussion, Wednesday, April 13. The group is reading Anne Lamott's, Traveling Mercies and will meet for dinner to discuss the book, then go to hear Anne Lamott speak that evening. Contact Mary Ritchie (ritchiem82@gmail.com) for more details. ► EAGLES will visit Marshalltown and Gladbrook on April 15. Plan to leave the Church promptly at 8:30 am for arrival at Gladbrook by 10:00 am to view the Matchstick Marvels ($3). The group will go back to Marshalltown for lunch ($13) at the Binford House. The meal price includes a presentation about the house. A tour of the newly restored Orpheum Theater is next. Before heading back to Des Moines, EAGLES may view an Impressionism Exhibit at the Fisher Art Museum (free) or do a bit of antique (or chocolate) shopping downtown. Contact Sue Tew (sue4youth@aol.com) if you are interested in joining the next session (dates to be announced). ► Mark your calendars to attend our all congregational Baseball and Apple Pie event on Sunday, June 5. There will be a picnic with an apple pie contest on the grass near the parking lot at Principal Park between 11:30 and 1:00, then we will attend an I-Cub's game at 1:05. Sign-ups will begin in May.

Temple Hosts Educational Seder | |
► Begin the season of the spirit with a celebration . . . of deliverance, and hope for salvation. You're invited to an Educational Seder hosted by Rabbi David Kaufman on Sunday, April 10, 3:00 p.m., at Temple B'nai Jeshurun. While not a complete dinner, this will be a great opportunity to learn about Jewish traditions and the stirrings of Christianity. Participate in communal fellowship, literally breaking bread - matzah - with people all around our community. $20 per person. Proceeds benefit the Temple's Youth Fund and Mazon - A Jewish Response to Hunger. Food and donations also welcome for the DMARC Food Pantry. Jean McKinney to be Honored |  Everyone is invited to a special reception in Weertz on Sunday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m., honoring longtime parish nurse, the Rev. Jean McKinney. Jean retired from St. John's at the end of January after 25 years of devoted service. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to send your best wishes to Jean in care of St. John's Lutheran Church, 600 Sixth Ave., Des Moines, IA 50309. We will put any messages for Jean in a basket to give her at the reception. |
| St. John's Spring Cleaning | April 9 is the date set aside for our annual spring cleaning. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., we need help in preparing the Sanctuary for our Easter celebration. The more who can help, the faster it goes; last year it took about two hours. All supplies will be provided. To offer your assistance, please call Katie at 243-7691.

Come to an introduction to Tending Your Inner Garden© Sunday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. in Neumann to learn about a new group forming for women at St. John's interested in spiritual growth and community. Diane Glass will present the program used by women in Iowa and around the world since 2003. | New Members Class | May 1st is the date; the time is noon. We will conclude at approximately 2:30. A light lunch will be provided.Several council and staff members will be on hand to meet and greet you. You will be introduced to the myriad of ministry and social opportunities available to our members. The ways to get involved are various and vast. Plus, you'll never find a nicer, more welcoming group of people anywhere! A light lunch will be provided. To reserve a spot in class, or if you have questions, call Katie at 243-7691. | Thank You from the Council | |
The St. John's Congregational Council thanks all members this month for continued faithful giving. At the March Council meeting, Treasurer Judi Langholz shared a positive financial report that St. John's had received 113% of what we needed for our ministry plan, year to date. That is good news we can all be thankful for!
