Book Discussion
► If you've read Ask, Thank, Tell by Charles R. Lane in the last few weeks the first discussion is this Sunday morning at 10:00 in Room 8. We encourage everyone to participate in the discussion as we prepare for the upcoming stewardship season. If you would like more information or would like to obtain a copy of the book please talk with a member of the Church Council.

Pride Parade
► The Rainbow Ministry Team of St. John's will again march in the Des Moines Pride Parade on Sunday June 13th, at 1pm. This is another great opportunity for us to represent St. John's as a "Church for All People". St. John's members and friends are invited to join us in the march. Meeting time is 12:30 p.m. and the location is on the east side of the Capital near Capital Avenue in the large parking lot. The parade ends on Robert D. Ray Drive near the river.
|
Family Movie Night
► On June 13th at 8:00 p.m. St. John's will have its first of three
outdoor movie nights. All are invited to the north parking lot where we
will show The Sandlot. Concessions will be available, with all proceeds benefiting our Youth
Ministry. Bring a lawn chair, a blanket, and a friend!
|
St. John's Moms
► St John's Moms will be meeting in the Nursery at 10 am Saturday June 12th. A lactation room will be available. If you are a mom of a child under 3 years old, we would like to invite you and your child to join us! For more information, please email Rachel Corron at rpcorron@yahoo.com or k.lablanc@gmail.com.

Children's Ministries
 ► VBS is
soon approaching June 21-24. Parents of registered campers can drop
off children at the church through the reception area (alley doors).
We'll all gather in Weertz Hall at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 21. DON'T
FORGET TO BRING A SACK LUNCH each day. Snacks will be provided.

Change in Communion Wine
► Starting in late June, the St. John's
Altar Guild will begin serving a rosé wine instead of the traditional
dark wine. This change is based on a recent taste test done on a
selection of communion wines by the Guild and Pastor Rachel. The rosé
wine is a more popular choice among congregations. It is also more
"forgiving" when spilled on communion linens. The new wine will also be
more easily distinguished from the dark grape juice that the Altar Guild
will continue to have available for communion.

Small Groups & Christian Involvement
► Networking, Monday, June 14, 5:30 pm. Gather to share ideas and make connections with others who are job hunting. Contact Ellen Fisher, ellenfisher123@yahoo.com, for the summer location. ► Couples/Singles will gather on Sunday, June 27, at Blank Park Miniature Golf Course at 4:00 pm (711 County Line Road) and/or at 6:00 pm at Baratta's (2320 S. Union) for dinner. Contact Harry & Starr Hinrichs at 253-9106 or Harry_Starr@Yahoo.com by June 21 for reservations. Cost for miniature golfing is $5; dinner-order off the menu. ► All Congregational Event: The interest sign up for an all-congregational Barnstormers arena football event indicated there is not enough interest at this time for a block of seats. Watch the bulletin for future all-congregational events.

Portable Communion Items Missing
► St. John's Altar Guild
provides portable communion boxes for those who aren't able to attend
services. Once used, these boxes are returned to the Guild for cleaning
and refilling so that others may use them. Unfortunately, some of these
boxes have not been returned or have been returned but are missing the
two glass vials used to store the wine. If you have any of these vials
or communion boxes, please return them to the church. We are unable to
purchase more of these items. Your assistance in returning them will
enable the Altar Guild to continue to offer this service to others who
are not able to commune with us at church. ~ Wanda Havard (2010 Altar
Guild President)
