| U.S. DOT Will Not Propose Ag Regulations | |
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced that it will not propose new regulations governing the transport of agricultural products, or offer further guidance to states on interpreting interstate commerce and implements of husbandry regulations.
MWFPA submitted comments to the agency in June stressing that any effort to define implements of husbandry as commercial motor vehicles could have a negative impact on the fruit and vegetable industry. FMCSA determined that most States have already adopted common sense enforcement practices that allow farmers to safely move equipment to and from their fields.

WI GOP Maintains Control of Senate in Recall | |
Wisconsin Republicans retained control of the state Senate with victories in four out of six recall elections. The results represent a victory for Governor Walker, who used his legislative majorities to place collective-bargaining curbs on most public employee unions in February and March, sparking weeks of protests. Two more recall elections, involving Democratic incumbents, will be held tomorrow, and one race is considered competitive. To date, estimates are that over $35 million has been spent on the recall races. Compare that to $19.3 million spent in 2010's 115 legislative races and the $37.4 million spent in the race for governor.
