Dear DHP Installers,

Introducing a New Ductless Heat Pump Preferred Product List
The NW DHP Project is pleased to offer the Ductless Heat Pump Preferred Product List as a resource to utilities, contractors and consumers. The Ductless Heat Pump Preferred Product List contains important product information such as energy efficiency ratings, tax credit eligibility and indoor/outdoor unit capability. Utilities, contractors and consumers can use this list to identify energy efficient units available in the marketplace. To view the Ductless Heat Pump Preferred Product List and criteria for inclusion, visit the Contractors > Product Information section of www.nwductless.com.

If you have questions about the Ductless Heat Pump Preferred Product List, please contact Leigh Baumann at lbaumann@fluidms.com or (503) 808-9003 ext 119.
Marketing Update
The Project has developed a 30 second radio Public Service Announcement (PSA) to significantly increase consumer awareness throughout the four state region. Many stations have already agreed to air the PSA, and the Project anticipates that traffic to www.GoingDuctless.com and the toll-free number (1-888-95-UPGRADE) will increase as a result. Through these channels, the Project will refer interested parties to qualified contractors in their area. The PSAs are expected to begin airing in early June and continue throughout the cooling season.

Additionally, an internet advertising campaign is being launched in June and will run through December on various TVnews.com stations and Comcast.net throughout the four state region. This will also increase consumer awareness and drive traffic to www.GoingDuctless.com, where consumers can perform contractor searches within their area.
Torque Wrenches
Torque Wrench
In accordance with manufacturer specifications, a torque wrench should be used to connect refrigerant lines on all ductless heat pump installations. The Project has heard reports of damaged outdoor units and cracked refrigerant line flares due to over tightened flare fittings. Contact your distributor to find out which torque wrench should be used for the models you install. The Project is collecting data about the use of these wrenches in the field, and would like to hear from you about whether or not you use a torque wrench and where you purchase these tools. Our goal is to be able to help contractors identify distributors who carry these important tools, and encourage all distributors to offer torque wrenches to their customers. Please contact Emily Martin at 503.808.9003x135 or email emartin@fluidms.com.
Technical Tip: Recording Line Set Length and Refrigerant Charge
Record Information Here
Technical tip May
The Project recommends that contractors record the installed line set length and refrigerant charge at each job site in order to ensure that future maintenance and repair can be performed easily and accurately. Contractors are encouraged to record this information in permanent marker on the interior of the outdoor unit's service panel cover.

Installation at Columbia Hills Retirement Center

The Project would like to commend Columbia Northwest Heating for their work installing 33 Mitsubishi ductless heat pumps at the Columbia Hills Retirement Center.  This multi-unit application of the technology was facilitated by Columbia River PUD and welcomed by the residents of the retirement center.  The facility manager of Columbia Hills commented that Columbia NW Heating did a wonderful job of installing the units and the residents are very happy with the comfort that the ductless systems provide.
