Richmond Drainage Improvements: Richmond Storm Sewer Complete |
Richmond Construction
A big milestone in the Richmond Avenue Storm Drainage Improvement Project was reached this week when the final runs of six-by-six foot storm sewer line were completed. Crews can now begin back-filling and pavement preparation in anticipation of concrete placement currently scheduled for October 9th. The hope is that crews are able to pour far enough west to open up the Audley intersection later the same week and, ultimately, the majority of Richmond by the end of October.
East of Eastside, work has continued this week on junction box placement at Kirby and Wakeforest. Workers placed the lid on the Kirby box late this week and back-filled the area. Based on concrete availability, this section could be poured and opened the week of September 24.
Also scheduled for concrete the week of September 24 is the northern half of Norfolk St. west of Eastside. The concrete will need approximately 4 days to cure prior to being able to hold cars or equipment so crews will aim to be ready to pour the other half of the street the following week. The Richmond Drainage Improvement Project between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway is one of two remaining systems still needing upgrades that feeds into the recently updated Kirby storm system and moves water south to Braes Bayou. The project will entail the installation of a new 6-foot storm drain to provide additional underground capacity and upgraded lateral systems and inlets on Eastside and Audley all aimed at addressing the serious flooding issues this stretch of Richmond is known to experience.
