Richmond Drainage Improvements: Concrete East of Eastside Scheduled Next Week |
Richmond Construction
Expect more of the same this week on Richmond Avenue as crews continue to push west toward Buffalo Speedway with the final run of six-by-six foot storm drains. This final section runs from just west of Audley to just east of Buffalo Speedway.
Work will move back to the Audley/Richmond intersection after the primary line is installed to complete a short section of nine-by-four foot boxes that will connect the new lateral drain line on Audley to the new system on Richmond. There should be no change to traffic control layout as this phase of work is completed.
As drainage work continues west of Eastside Street, concrete work will be ongoing east of Eastside roughly to Virginia. Concrete is expected to be poured late next week. Unfortunately this progress will not mean removal of traffic control along this stretch of road next week as concrete will likely set through the weekend and junction box work at Kirby and Wakeforest will still obstruct a complete lane opening.
Junction box work at Kirby and Wakeforest will continue through the month September. Walls for the Kirby junction box were scheduled to be poured on September 5, but were delayed due to concrete availability. Once the walls are poured in place and the top is set, the box will have to cure for approximately one week prior to back-filling and restoring for normal traffic. Look for further updates as this work is scheduled.
Lateral drainage work on Audley was completed this week allowing the drainage crew to move on to installation of inlet leads and inlets at Lake Street and Eastside (both north of Richmond). Next week expect short sections of Lake and Eastside approaching Richmond from the north to be impacted. Crews will complete the inlet work in halves leaving half of the roadway open to through traffic with the help of flagmen.
Water line chlorination at Norfolk west of Eastside has delayed progress on this section. Crews expect to begin pavement preparation in the next two weeks.
The Richmond Drainage Improvement Project between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway is one of two remaining systems still needing upgrades that feeds into the recently updated Kirby storm system and moves water south to Braes Bayou. The project will entail the installation of a new 6-foot storm drain to provide additional underground capacity and upgraded lateral systems and inlets on Eastside and Audley all aimed at addressing the serious flooding issues this stretch of Richmond is known to experience.
Please be on the lookout for further updates as work progresses. For more information on Upper Kirby construction projects and for issues and concerns as construction progresses, contact Travis Younkin at 713.524.8000 or email [email protected].
