Richmond Drainage Improvements: Main Drainage Lines Complete Kirby to Audley |
Richmond Construction
Crews have now completed installation of the main six-by-six foot drainage line on Richmond between Kirby and Audley. Now only junction boxes at Kirby and Wakeforest remain before moving traffic control west to Buffalo Speedway.
Raytec Construction will be building the junction boxes in place at Wakeforest and Kirby over the next several weeks. Crews hope to have the Kirby junction box completed next week. Once the boxes are complete, the stretch of Richmond between Kirby and Eastside will be able to be opened back up to traffic and focus will shift to the area just east of Audley to the Buffalo Speedway intersection.
Work on lateral streets is expected to progress significantly next week. The final run of street on Eastside south of Richmond is scheduled to be poured on Tuesday. Traffic should be able to use the new concrete by next weekend. Water line connection work still remains on Eastside at Richmond so a short section of the road approaching Richmond from either direction will still remain to be poured, however, with that exception work on Eastside will be complete next week.
Water line connections on Norfolk will be completed shortly. The goal here is to pour concrete on Norfolk mid September.
The Richmond Drainage Improvement Project between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway is one of two remaining systems still needing upgrades that feeds into the recently updated Kirby storm system and moves water south to Braes Bayou. The project will entail the installation of a new 6-foot storm drain to provide additional underground capacity and upgraded lateral systems and inlets on Eastside and Audley all aimed at addressing the serious flooding issues this stretch of Richmond is known to experience.
