Richmond Drainage Improvements: Eastside North of Richmond Complete |
Richmond Construction
Work on Richmond over the coming week will be more of the same on Richmond. Crews will continue junction box work at the Kirby/Richmond intersection and will begin excavation and shoring for the Wakeforest junction box.
Over the past week, Raytec Construction was able to install almost 300 feet of six-by-six foot storm sewer on Richmond and about the same on Eastside south of Norfolk.
Crews were also able to complete pavement placement on Eastside north of Richmond early in the week and that stretch is now open to traffic. Storm sewer work has since begun on Audley north of Richmond. Raytec expects to complete storm work on Audley next week. Water line chlorination and disinfection is ongoing at Norfolk. It is anticipated that pavement restoration should begin here next week as well. The goal is to have Norfolk and Eastside completely restored by the end of the month.
Richmond work should remain focused east of Eastside Street through the month of August and most likely into the first part of September as junction boxes are placed and pavement is restored. Once this activity is complete, expect traffic control to move to the west side of Eastside just east of Audley and to extend to Buffalo Speedway. This will be the final stretch of work within the scope of this project.
The Richmond Drainage Improvement Project between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway is one of two remaining systems still needing upgrades that feeds into the recently updated Kirby storm system and moves water south to Braes Bayou. The project will entail the installation of a new 6-foot storm drain to provide additional underground capacity and upgraded lateral systems and inlets on Eastside and Audley all aimed at addressing the serious flooding issues this stretch of Richmond is known to experience.
