Upper Kirby Update

January 20, 2012

Buffalo Speedway Construction
Night Work This Week
Bissonnet Intersection Paving
Buffalo Speedway Construction

Buffalo Speedway construction is moving forward and on schedule for substantial completion in March.

Since the project began in February 2011, contractors have completed overhead utility burial, new water and storm sewer installation and have paved all main lanes on the eastern half of the roadway.

Bissonnet intersection work on the eastern half of the street continued this week and is expected to be completed by the end of the weekend. At which point, intersection paving activity will move to the Westpark intersection.

Motorists should expect a short period of one-lane through traffic heading east and west on Bissonnet for a short distance crossing the Buffalo Speedway intersection through Sunday. The intersection will be completely opened up by Monday.

Crews will be implementing similar traffic control at Westpark today in preparation for pavement placement. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be maintained at the Westpark intersection during reconstruction, however, left turning movements and through traffic will operate out of the same lane. Westpark intersection work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete.

Crews also completed paving the HEB driveways this week, made significant progress on water line connection work  and began sidewalk installation moving north from Bissonnet toward Westpark. Sidewalk installation will continue over the coming week.

Several traffic shifts may occur in the coming month as intersection work progresses. Look for email updates as plans are finalized.

Public Safety New Police Patrol off to an Aggressive Start
Upper Kirby's new 24-hour Police Patrol has made great strides in its first two weeks on the street.

The service utilizes off-duty HPD, Sheriffs, Metro Police and Texas State Troopers to patrol the businesses and subscribing residents in the area and have taken a proactive approach to Upper Kirby crime prevention.

They have been meeting the business owners and residents in the community and identifying the safety needs specific to Upper Kirby. The first two weeks of the Patrol yielded 6 arrests including two for possession of marijuana, two DWI arrests, one public intoxication arrest and one arrest for criminal mischief.
