Crews Continue Work on Buffalo Speedway
|
Buffalo Speedway Construction Pavement crews have made significant progress over the past week working on the east side of Buffalo Speedway moving from Bissonnet north. Last week pavement was placed on northbound lanes between Bissonnet and the south side of HEB's northernmost driveway. This week work will continue on the northbound lanes working all the way to US 59.
Demolition crews expect to move north on Monday to begin pulling out the roadway between Westpark and US 59. This work will require that traffic be reduced down to one lane until new pavement is placed and cured. During demolition of this section, a pavement crew will be pouring the northbound main lanes from the HEB driveway to Westpark. This activity should be completed mid to late next week at which point the pavement crew will move to the section between Westpark and US 59 and place new concrete. They will be using a fast-dry concrete mix on this section in hopes of having the pavement open to traffic by the following Monday.
Over the next two and a half weeks, two crews will be working at all times on Buffalo Speedway in hopes of completing new pavement on the east side of the street before the Christmas holiday. If all goes well, traffic will shift to the west side of Buffalo Speedway just after the first of the year.
Look for further updates as any traffic switches will be announced as they are scheduled.
Kirby Drive Construction Kirby Drive between Richmond and US 59 is now substantially complete.
The center median has been poured and planted leaving only the cobblestone installation in the medians left to be installed. Monday through Friday next week small crews will handle touch-up work on the medians as well as bench installations on the sides of the street.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures between the hours of 6am and 3pm to allow for these final touches. Also remaining is some traffic signal work at US 59. With significant TxDOT construction going on over the past several weeks, traffic signal activity at this interchange was postponed to reduce overall impact.
The District would like to thank the local businesses and property owners along Kirby Drive as well as the motorists who rely on this stretch of roadway for their patience and understanding during construction. It has been a grave inconvenience, but one that has led to a truly amazing city street.
