October in the Upper Kirby District

Upper Kirby Construction
Kirby Drive Nearing Completion
Richmond Intersection Work Ahead
59 paving Kirby Drive Construction
September was active on Kirby Drive as crews completed main lane paving between Richmond Avenue and US 59 and began median work on the center of the roadway. The US 59 interchange is now just one short weekend from completion leaving only the Richmond/Kirby intersection reconstruction and streetscape and landscaping amenity installation before the project is complete.

Crews will continue working on the center of the roadway over the next several weeks and will be using outside lanes for back-of-curb installations along the sides of the roadway. Four lanes will continue to remain open as work progresses this month.

Intersection work at Richmond and US 59 will be reconstructed over weekends so as to minimize the disruption to local businesses and reduce traffic impacts. The sequence and phasing of this work is still being finalized, but expect the interchange to be disrupted between Friday night and Monday morning over several weekends in October. Further updates will be sent out as the schedule is finalized detailing specific traffic movements and considerations.

On the schedule this coming weekend, however, will be the final phase of paving at the Richmond/59 intersection. Crews will be working to remove and replace the curb-side lane on the northbound frontage road. Motorists should expect the curbside lanes on both the 59 northbound frontage road and Kirby Drive heading north under the freeway to be closed during this phase of work. Movements will return to normal conditions by the Monday morning rush-hour.

Buffalo Speedway Construction   Buffalo Speedway work will continue this month with water line and storm sewer installation on the east side of the street. Storm work will cross the maintained traffic lanes during this phase, but this work will be completed overnight and will use flagmen to maintain throughput as the work progresses. Pavement work will follow shortly behind on the east side of the roadway prior to any traffic shift. Motorists should expect the current road configuration to remain throughout the month of October.

Look for weekly updates as this project progresses.
