Kirby Drive Richmond to 59 Pavement Complete Next Week |
Over the past week been pushing forward on paving the east side of Kirby Drive between Richmond and US 59 and are now well underway with water line installation on Buffalo Speedway between US 59 and Bissonnet.
Kirby Drive Construction Over the past week, crews have been hard at work paving the east side of the roadway and are on pace to have the main lanes of the roadway paved by the end of this week. This will leave intersection work at Richmond and Kirby as well as at Kirby and US 59, new median installation and back-of-curb improvements as the only remaining items prior to final completion of the project.
It is anticipated that traffic barriers will be moved early next week in preparation for the center median installation and hardscape and landscaping work behind the curbs. Construction activity will move from the east side Kirby to the center of the roadway and traffic movement will be maintained on either side of the median area. The outside (curbside) lanes heading both north and southbound will be closed for the back of curb work and two lanes in either direction will continue to flow north and south. Once the traffic switch is complete, the majority of next week will be spent beginning the median construction and pedestrian improvements.
Over the weekend, however, work will continue on the underpass at Kirby and 59 focusing now on the center lanes. While construction activity will be increased at this location between Friday night and Sunday, traffic movements in all directions through the intersection will be maintained.
Other off peak-hour activity will include tying in the recently constructed water line at Richmond and Kirby to the existing system. This work will be completed either overnight or during slow traffic times during the day. Disruptions during this work should be minimal.
Buffalo Speedway Construction Water line work is progressing nicely on Buffalo Speedway with storm sewer work following shortly behind. The next several weeks will be spent installing new water lines on the east side of the street. Expect traffic movements to remain the same during this phase of work.
Look for weekly updates as this project progresses.
