Kirby Drive - Richmond to 59 Norfolk Work Begins Next Week

Kirby Drive Construction
Work is scheduled to begin on several key components of the Kirby Drive reconstruction project next week as paving activity continues to move along on the west side of the roadway. Here are some things to look out for as you negotiate the construction zone:
Norfolk Access Closed on the West Side of Kirby- Crews are scheduled to begin work crossing the Norfolk/Kirby interchange on the west side of Kirby next week. As work crosses the intersection, all movements onto Norfolk from Kirby and onto Kirby from Norfolk will be prohibited on the west side of Kirby. Patrons looking to access destinations on both the north and south sides of Norfolk can do so via driveway access directly off of Kirby. As the closure only entails the intersection where Norfolk meets Kirby, Norfolk will be open west of Kirby and destinations can also be accessed via Lake Street off of Richmond.
Storm Sewer Work to Begin on Norfolk East of Kirby- Crews have been busy over the past week working nights to complete the storm drainage tie-in at Norfolk and Kirby on the east side of Kirby Drive. This work has been in preparation for the construction of a new storm drainage lateral line that will run east down Norfolk to Revere where it will then turn north and run along Revere to Richmond.
Traffic movement will be maintained on Norfolk and Revere throughout this lateral line construction, however, it will likely be restricted to one-way movement westbound on Norfolk from Revere toward Kirby.
US 59 Underpass Southbound Lanes to Close July 15th through July 18th - All southbound lanes under US 59 are on schedule to be constructed the weekend of July 15 through July 18. Access southbound under the freeway will be prohibited over this period as crews work to remove and replace the pavement under 59 and between the north and south frontage roads. Crews will close the southbound lanes around 10 PM Friday night and re-open them around 5 AM Monday morning. During this construction, southbound motorists on Kirby as well as westbound motorists on the 59 feeder looking to turn south onto Kirby will be detoured west along the feeder where they may U-Turn at Buffalo Speedway to resume heading south on Kirby.
