Stay tuned for funding opportunities for bicycle and pedestrian facilities....

More information will be available in July 2010 for the Safe Routes to School, Transportation Enhancements, and Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program funding.

These programs encourage children ages K-8 to walk and bike to school by creating safer walking and biking routes and increase multi-modal transportation alternatives which enhance communities and the environment.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be accepting project applications soon for three 2011 - 2014 funding programs:  Surface Transportation Program Rural (STP-R), Surface Transportation Program - Urban (STP-U), and Local Bridge Improvement Assistance Program. These funding programs generally include 80% federal and 20% local participation and projects must meet federal and state requirements.

STP-U
Wells StreetThe STP-U allocates federal funds to complete a variety of improvements to federal-aid-eligible roads and streets in urban areas.  The objective of STP-U is to improve federal-aid-eligible highways within urban areas. Communities are eligible for funding on roads functionally classified as major collector or higher.
Local Bridge
Fox Isle Drive Bridge The Local Bridge Improvement Assistance Program helps rehabilitate and replace seriously deficient local bridges on Wisconsin's local highway systems.  Counties, cities, villages, and towns are eligible, on a cost-shared basis, for rehabilitation funding on bridges with sufficiency ratings of 80 or less and replacement funding on bridges with sufficiency ratings less than 50.
