CBS News San Francisco: "Chocolate Bar That Fights Aging"

The CBS television station in San Francisco recently carried a feature on WineTime Bars on its 5:00 PM Eyewitness News broadcast. The intro: "How about this? A new chocolate bar that fights aging and improves heart health."

The reporter went on to say, "You get a lot more than chocolate. WineTime Bar is the first snack bar to contain resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant found in grapes."

The segment featured some nice product beauty shots and people interviewed in the street thought that the bars were "good...tasted like figs...and good value." Even a skeptical doctor who recommended getting flavonoids through eating fruits and vegetables had to admit "I like the taste!" But really, only getting your flavonoids from fruits and vegetables? Everyone knows that's a good idea. But how many of us really do it? And how many of us would like a little healthy chocolate indulgence? Besides there is mounting evidence that chocolate is really good for you, too!

A review on the Treats with a Twist blog said: "Almond Coffee bar was like a jolt of espresso and chocolate while being hearty and satisfying. Granola Citrus Burst was so packed with flavor that I had to enjoy it very slowly, but in a good way. This bar is awesome to eat if you travel frequently and come into contact with anything that may lower your immune system."

The Jennie Yuen blog wrote: "The Citrus Burst had a tangy orangey taste, while the Almond Coffee had a nice chocolatey flavor (which is my favorite). These are really great and convenient for on-the-go where I can have it as a snack any time of day (and anywhere). I had to introduce these bars to my sister as well. She's like me, always getting sick because of our weak immune systems."

Foodreview101.com also reviewed TravelTime Bars saying that the Granola Citrus Burst had "an extremely powerful citrus flavor to it...but the best thing about this bar was that it was dotted with cranberries and raisins that really gave this bar a refreshing flavor...soft and chewy." Turning to Almond Coffee with Chocolate Chips they wrote, "The coffee flavor in this bar is great...the chocolate and coffee ratio is near perfect.

Chocolate makes you thinner?

Who would have thought it? Now there's yet another great reason to eat chocolate. According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine adults who eat chocolate on a regular basis are actually thinner compared to those who don't "indulge."

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego examined whether the metabolic benefits of eating modest amounts of chocolate might lead to reduced fat deposition per calorie and offset the added calories. They examined data from more than 1,000 men and women. Result: those who ate chocolate on more days a week had a lower body mass index than those who ate chocolate less often. The size of the effect was "significant."

Resveratrol Increases Anti-Tumor Effect

Resveratrol, when combined with the immunosuppressant drug rapamycin, can have a tumor-suppressing effect on breast cancer cells that are resistant to rapamycin alone.

The research--published in Cancer Letters--also indicates that the PTEN tumor-suppressing gene contributes to resveratrol's anti-tumor effects in this treatment combination.

Researchers even said, "If these observations hold true in the clinic setting, then enjoying a glass of red wine...before rapamycin treatment for cancer might be a prudent approach."
