Foodie Highlights - May/June 2011                                            Jan/Feb 2011
apr/may-highlights A great mix of location and studio work in the past month. An awesome shoot of Chambar owners, Nico and Karri Schuermans, for the cover of the Golden Plates issue of the Georgia Straight...with some help putting it all together from PR pro Shannon Heth and her expert team. More creative fulfillment with recipe development and a studio photo shoot for Ryza and Almond Fresh. We also spent a few days in the Culinary Institute at the White Spot head office, taking portraits of the "dream team" as well as capturing the Red Seal Chefs in training. The latest issue of EAT Magazine hits the stands with some work from the rounds I made at Wild Rice, Bao-Bei and Jade restaurants, shooting Anya Levykh's piece on the next generation of Chinese restaurants in Vancouver.

Tips Tricks & Techniques

Shooting iced cocktails such as thesetropical cocktails fruity concoctions requires time to handle all the fussy elements of the photo. Thankfully we have many shapes and sizes of fake ice to use on set. Here food stylist Carol Jensson subs in expanding polymer ice crystals (amazingly it's the same stuff used in diapers!) to buy time so we can focus on lighting and styling rather than melting drinks.

Foodie Favorites- Behind the Scenes
spring faves02 We're introducing a new category this issue with behind the scenes snap shots on set. A glimpse into all the activity behind the camera, supplemented with a little horsing around....and of course insight to the (sometimes) back breaking shooting process.

Sweet Endings

phase one choco cake April 13th was a night of food and fashion at Vancouver Photo Workshops where, in conjunction with the pros at Beau Photo and Phase One, we styled and shot this layered chocolate caramel dessert using the Phase One P45 -39 megapixels of spectacular reproduction quality, well suited for such decadence.
