We are inspired to press on and live life on purpose every time we see someone else take personal action in order to help Show Mercy. Today we wanted to share two specific stories about some of our Show Mercy partners. Their decision to be intentional as well as creative in their actions is exciting! These stories are just a sample of the many ways our partners are getting involved.
As you read about their fundraising and outreach events, we hope you too will be inspired and invigorated to use your talents and gifts. We encourage you to partner with us to be a voice for the children and adults of Uganda and Haiti. |
From Little Hands of Compassion
"Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." Martin Luther King, Jr.
East Swamp Church located in Pennsylvania has supported Show Mercy in a variety of ways over the past couple of years through their vacation Bible school. Their last endeavor included creative teachers, colorful fabric, fluffy stuffing and little hands of compassion! Most children in the United States have a nice teddy bear or stuffed animal that helps to bring them comfort at night when they sleep.

With this in mind, East Swamp Church VBS decided to reach out in love and give this same comfort to the younger kids at Hope Children's Home in Uganda. Each teddy was sewn, hand stuffed and given a smiley face during the VBS last summer. These cuddly gifts were delivered by our team this January. As you can see from the picture below, the kids were all smiles!
What a great way to show the Hope kids love. Thank you East Swamp VBS! |
Roses Turn into Help for Haiti
February 14th is a day when most people celebrate love. Many people pour themselves out to the significant other in their lives. Two inspirational teens from Atascadero, CA decided to pour out their love in a unique way this year.
Riley Robb, a senior at Atascadero High School, along with her friend, Mimi Peterson, wanted to find a way to partner with Show Mercy and send relief to the hurting people of Haiti. Riley's family has been sponsoring a child In Uganda through SMI for a couple of years.
Riley and Mimi suddenly came up with the idea to sell roses and planned it in only one weeks time! They borrowed money from their parents and worked with a local nursery. They painted their sign and set up "shop" over valentine's weekend. Together, with their hard work and the community of Atascadero, every rose was sold and these world changers raised $500 for Show Mercy!
Thanks Riley, Mimi and everyone else involved! Your efforts are making a difference in Haiti.
If you are interested in hosting a fundraising event or would like one of our SMI team to join you to be a voice for Uganda and/or Haiti, please let us know! Everyone can do something to make a difference!! |
Meet Victoria
Victoria is a 14 year old girl. Her father is known as a village drunk and her mother passed away. Her father used to physically abuse her in many unspeakable ways. She ran away to the streets to live until someone found her and brought her to live at Hope Children's Home. She has been with us for 5 years now!
Victoria is definitely a leader with a humble heart. She longs to help others when she grows up and would like to go to school to be a doctor. This is a great opportunity to sponsor a great young lady! You can be a part of the Show Mercy family. Sponsor Victoria today. Click here to help. |
