| CMYK IDOL Results |
Thanks to all who voted in the recent CMYK Idol contest held by one of our suplliers. Our very own Trish Walsh was officially declared the winner on June 28. She beat out other print reps from Montreal and Ottawa and was the only female across Canada to win.
Tracey Stretch of Charlottetown was the lucky winner of the gift certificate for Fairmont Hotels. |

Greetings!
Change can be a frightening thing for many people. In business, however, it is an inevitable force that all business people have to deal with. In Kwik Kopy's case, change is an ongoing process as technology keeps pushing the boundaries, and reshaping our business model. For that reason alone, two of our articles deal with some very different types of changes that have taken place in our business and in our industry over the years. Read on for more. |
| NEW PRESS | |
Guess which press is the newest addittion to our shop. | A Look at the Old and New
The newest addition to our equipment at Kwik Kopy is not the high-tech beast on the right. . . it is actually the little press on the left.
The Golding Jobber manufactured in 1890 was acquired during the purchase of Island Offset. The unit was originally in operation at Dillon Printing here in Charlottetown.
Nameplate on the Press |
While it may look old and decrepit, this press still works. Originally this unit was desinged to be operated with a foot treadle, but some models did have a motor. This unit will work just by turning the large flywheel on the side. Almost all of the parts are original and are made of steel or cast iron; as such it is a very heavy piece of equipment. There are still some of these in operation in North America as it is a very popular press amongst hobbyists.
To compare it to our second newest press, the Golding will do approximately 200 sheets an hour (depending on how fast the operator can manually remove and insert the paper sheet) and can handle a 10 x 15 size sheet and print one color. The Heidelbergh SM 74 (pictured on the right) can handle 15,000 sheets ( 20" x 29") an hour, print two colors at once, and is capable of doing full process color, complicated screens, and much more. Bets are on to see which press will still be around 110 years from now. |

Shawn and Troy unveil Kwik Kopy's newest team member, Jamie Whitlock |
Wide Format Specialist
After 2 years of being away from Kwik Kopy Jamie Whitlock has come back. This time in a new and expanded role as wide format specialist.
Wide Format Specialist is a new role created to address the growing demand for our wide-format services. Jamie will be available to help customers and clients decide on the best way to maximize their signage spend.
What is wide format you may ask? Wide format printing applies to printing on media larger/wider than the normal sheet size of 17". Printing is not restricted to just paper either. Vinyl banners, posters, coroplast signage, vehicle graphics, window graphics, and trade show displays, are just some of the things we can print.
Jamie originally worked here at Kwik Kopy from 2003-2008 as a pre-press technician and left to try his hand at something different. He now brings his great customer service skills, design knowledge, and new-found wide-format experience back to Kwik Kopy.
On another note, it is with regret that we announce that Robyn Younker, who joined Kwik Kopy in the Island Offset purchase, has decided to switch careers. We wish her all the best at D.P. Murphy and know that she will be a great asset to the D.P. Murphy store management team. Graham MacDougall and Leslie Hambly have taken over the customer service duties and accounts that were Robyn's. |
