Forty and Counting: Battered Women & Children Shoe Drive

A simple pair of shoes may not look powerful, but they can make a huge difference in the lives of local battered women and children that seek shelter at Sunrise Pasco because their homes are no longer safe.
Every night a woman will gain the courage to escape from domestic violence. She will walk through a shelter's door and become a survivor.  More than likely she will be holding a child's hand and lacking basic necessities. Help us provide them shoes to make the long hard road ahead a little less bumpy.
Since we were so successful with our last shoe drive (40 pairs already!)  we have decided to extend our drive throughout the year. We are teaming up with Sunrise Pasco and collecting shoes for at-risk women and children. So dig out some of your used, but functional shoes and help us reach our 2010 goal of 1,000 women's and children's shoes.
No donation is too small.  Most of the donations to the shoe drive have come from families giving one or two pairs of shoes. You can drop off shoes at either our Zephyrhills or Sun City Center office. We are also accepting men's shoes to donate to other local charities. For more information about the drive contact our office

If you or someone you know is a victim of Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault, please call the Sunrise Hotline at (352) 521-3120.  A Sunrise staff member will refer you to
needed services in your area.

Heel Pain 101
 Foot Pain
Why Do People Suffer for Months or Years From Heel Pain When They Don't Have To?

It's a question we've asked ourselves many times.  At Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay we see people every day who come to us because they just woke up one morning with a sharp stabbing pain in their heels that lessened or increased as the day wore on. Their continuing pain is often not quite as severe as that first morning, but they now know that something just isn't right with their feet. They continue to live with it (and the occasional flare-ups) hoping that it will go away in time and yet it just doesn't. Why would they live with this kind of pain and limitation?

We have a Confession to Make

After all these years we still don't know why people continue to live with Heel Pain and the limitations on their lifestyle that it imposes. Because it can be cured.

That's right.  95% of people who experience heel pain can be cured with simple conservative treatments.

We believe there are THREE BIG REASONS that people try to just live with pain in their feet.

·

They don't know that it can be cured. Eliminated. Ended. People think that since they use their feet so much, that they must have to hurt at least a little bit. But this is just plain wrong because the natural LIFETIME state of your feet should be PAIN-FREE.
·        They hope it will go away naturally. It won't. The underlying cause of heel pain must be treated and resolved. All that will happen is that the pain will continue to grow until it is so bad that the person finally seeks treatment. You just can't put this one off and delaying it only makes treating it more difficult.
·        They are worried about surgery, time off work, cost. Here's the great news. 95% of all heel pain cases can be treated without surgery, using simple treatments and therapies and no time off from work.

One Out of Every Four Americans will experience Heel Pain in their Lifetime!

That's right, heel pain is very common. We see it every day.  Nothing is more precious that having healthy happy feet that can carry you everywhere you wish to go. There are many reasons that the number of heel pain cases is increasing so dramatically. Here are two:

Our Active Healthy Lifestyles

We  hate to be the ones to break the news to you, but your active lifestyle may be one of the reasons you're experiencing this pain. When we walk, run, play golf or participate in other sports we really use our feet and legs. We participate in some of these activities on hard unnatural services like concrete or asphalt. As we actively move we can cause damage to our feet and ankles. This damage can often be prevented with the right kind of stretching and warm up activities, but quite often we don't take the time and we begin to experience pain. In some cases sharp stabbing pain. The good news is that the damage can be repaired and full activity can resume and we can teach you how to prepare for physical activity and minimize any further damage.

Our Work Requires us To Use Our Feet Extensively

Many of us have jobs that require us to be on our feet and working. Nurses, waiters, construction workers, delivery workers, teachers, just about all working persons spend a lot of time on their feet. Often the motions that we employ to complete our work can put undue stress on our feet and we soon find ourselves struggling with pain in our heels and arches. And just as in sports we are usually working on hard unnatural surfaces.

No One Has To Suffer From Heel Pain. Here is how to learn more.

Armed with important facts you can easily make the choice to end your suffering quickly and return to your active, healthy lifestyle. With the treatment options we now have, you can expect in 95% of the cases to miss no work at all as we solve this problem together.
