In late August 2011, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board selected SMARTRISK as a winner of a $60,000 grant to support Northern Secondary School and Leo Hayes High School in developing and implementing a distracted driving initiative.
On Oct. 25th and 26th, students from both schools came together for a training session on distracted driving and social media facilitated by SMARTRISK with the support of several key partners.
The outcome of this training session was a campaign and multimedia competition entitled "Distracted Driving - Is It Worth It?" The key messages for the competition ("My Car. My Rules" and "You're not on the road- why is your car?"), as well as the strategy behind it, were developed by the students through a series of workshops and group discussions.
All students who attend a No Regrets school are invited to submit a video between 30-180 seconds long, focused on the issue of teen distracted driving before Mar. 16, 2012. If you would like to learn more about the competition, how to get involved, and the great prizes that you could win, sign up for updates on our competition website www.isitworthit.ca. The full competition website will go live on Dec. 1, 2011.
Thank you to all those involved in the training session. It was a great success and would not have been possible without each and every one of you.
