Tim Wynne-JonesTim Wynne-Jones appointed to the Order of Canada

Our most heartfelt congratulations go out to Tim-Wynne Jones, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in December for "his contributions to Canadian literature." Tim writes on his website: "Although I'm an officer there isn't a uniform; so, sad to say, no epaulets or sash (so much for my Boy George aspirations). But I do get a beautiful insignia medallion and this truly fabulous honour."

Patsy AldanaCo-Publisher Patsy Aldana responds to proposed Toronto Public Library budget cuts

The Toronto Public Library board has been mandated by Mayor Rob Ford's administrator to cut a further 10% from the library budget, after already reducing the budget by $10 million. Groundwood Books Co-Publisher Patsy Aldana is also Co-Chair of the National Reading Campaign (alongside Rick Wilks). Patsy and Rick have written a passionate letter to Toronto City Council asking that the Council reconsider the budget cuts:

"Torontonians have an obligation to give every child living in this city the chance to have a successful life by becoming life-long readers. Our democracy and sense of fairness demand it."
