Doctor Kiss Says Yes

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Joanne Fitzgerald, who passed away on August 14, 2011. Joanne won the Governor General's Award for Illustration for Doctor Kiss Says Yes and illustrated many more beloved children's books. She will be missed.

How long has the bookstore been in business?

 

Exactly one year.

 

Do you have a favourite book?

 

My own (alas out of print) novel The Textbook of the Rose (Cormorant). Otherwise: Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood is a tour de force.

 

Do you have a favourite Anansi or Groundwood book?

 

The Wayfinders by Wade Davis.

 

What are your current hot sellers?

 

Too Bad: Sketches Toward a Self Portrait by Robert Kroetsch, A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, and In The Suicide's Library by Tim Bowling.

 

What's the most interesting request or customer experience you've had?

 

A woman came in looking for a Christmas gift for her fiance's ex-wife, who is a journalist/politician interested in history and fashion. I found the customer a pop-up book on the history of shoes

 

Does your bookstore have an overall philosophy?

 

We are carefully curated to appeal to the unusually bookish.
