HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
First I suggested that you decide what you want to KEEP doing in 2012. Then I asked what you wanted to LET GO of this next year.
Now I am inviting you to think about what you want to BEGIN in 2012. And none of this 'change my whole lifestyle' thing. Think small; think doable; think maintainable; and think fun.
One of my BEGINs this next year (actually, I've already started) is playing Xbox 360 Kinect's sports, adventures and dance games. The funny thing is, this wasn't my BEGIN for
Health. The idea to BEGIN playing Xbox games in 2012 was actually intended to support my marriage. Steve and I have a weekly date night. We started off spending it going out to dinner, but lately we spend it on the couch watching a movie. This year I wanted our date nights to be more interactive. I thought of Wii bowling and other action games we could do together but not have to leave home. With further research we decided on the Xbox Kinect. One reason we went with it was because we're less likely to hit our TV with flying objects (like the controller). Besides it sounded fun controlling the games with body movement alone.
I was leery about spending that much money. But I got to thinking about it and realized we would have spent that much money in less than three months if we'd had dinner out once a week. And though a gym membership isn't that expensive, even for two people, my husband is already the one reminding
me that it's Xbox night. That wouldn't happen if we were going to the gym.
I'm not suggesting you go out and buy Xbox or Wii or one of the other computer game technologies for moving more. I'm asking that you look at new (or revisit old) ways of connecting with others, of moving more and definitely of having more fun in 2012.
We're loving our Xbox Kinect. We're more active and we actually find excuses to play it. We are being active together and it doesn't feel like exercise. What a great way to BEGIN 2012.
What will you BEGIN in 2012?
