Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Words have the power to influence our actions.  Often the wrong word can stop us in our tracks, but the right word can support us on our journey .  And there are everyday words that we use which may be holding us back.  I try to use 'move' in place of 'exercise' and I definitely use 'could' instead of 'should'.  I heard another word exchange that hit home for me.  From now on, when I think about changing something I do routinely and without thinking, a habit, I will focus on changing my pattern instead.  I envision a pattern as this piece of cloth that is laid out in my life.  It covers certain aspects and touches others.  I can arrange it differently from many sides.  I don't have to eliminate it, all I have to do is pull it over here or throw it back there, and the new pattern I've developed supports my intentions of health and happiness.  Whereas a habit is more of a hard walnut and I have to crack it all at once in order to change.

This week, the pattern in my life that I am building is adding strengthening moves (aka, exercises) into my day but as usual I'll start small.  I've chosen ONE, side leg raises.  I can do them while I'm waiting for the coffee to brew first thing in the morning.  I can do them while I'm brushing my teeth each night.  I can do them while I'm on the phone.
What pattern can you alter this week?
How'd it go?

Did you buddy up last week?

The "what should be" never did exist, but people keep trying to live up to it. There is no "what should be," there is only what is.

I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
