Words have the power to influence our actions. Often the wrong word can stop us in our tracks, but the right word can support us on our journey . And there are everyday words that we use which may be holding us back. I try to use 'move' in place of 'exercise' and I definitely use 'could' instead of 'should'. I heard another word exchange that hit home for me. From now on, when I think about changing something I do routinely and without thinking, a
habit, I will focus on changing my
pattern instead
. I envision a pattern as this piece of cloth that is laid out in my life. It covers certain aspects and touches others. I can arrange it differently from many sides. I don't have to eliminate it, all I have to do is pull it over here or throw it back there, and the new pattern I've developed supports my intentions of health and happiness. Whereas a habit is more of a hard walnut and I have to crack it all at once in order to change.
This week, the pattern in my life that I am building is adding strengthening moves (aka, exercises) into my day but as usual I'll start small. I've chosen ONE,
side leg raises. I can do them while I'm waiting for the coffee to brew first thing in the morning. I can do them while I'm brushing my teeth each night. I can do them while I'm on the phone.
