Last week I didn't know how I was going to get back on track. I knew I was going to do it, but just couldn't find the motivation to actually do it. I figured that getting back to exercising was my first step. I knew I needed to exercise for general health reasons; I knew I needed to exercise for easier weight maintenance; I also knew that I needed to exercise for day to day living. The brain knew and understood the arguments but I never got past the "I know I should" to actually doing it.
However on Saturday, in my Weight Watchers meeting, I blurted out my committment to joining
Penn Training & Fitness Center by the next Saturday. I hadn't meant to publicly announce it. But now I was committed.
Monday came along and there were reasons I didn't join.
Tuesday came and went and I was too busy to go.
By Wednesday I had set my intention to go at 2. At 2:15, I pushed back from the computer, told myself there was nothing more important than taking care of myself, and I went. I joined AND did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine with a few sets of upper body weights. WOW! I was energized and I was ready to take on life again. I was motivated to keep going
I know, I know. Exercise boosts all those good hormones and makes you feel better. I know this intellectually, but it is so easy to get caught up in the day to day excuses and lose that physical motivation. I also know that often times motivation follows action rather than the other way around and this proved it.
Here's the schedule at Penn's that I am committing to for the next week:
- Thursday, 10:30 Yoga
- Friday, 1:30ish general cardio
- Tuesday, 9:00 Zumba
- Wednesday, 2:00 general cardio & strength
If anyone wants to meet me at 6:30 AM on Wednesday for the Senior Stretch, let me know. I want to go but know that it's not going to happen that early in the morning unless I've committed to meeting someone there, so let me know if you want to help out :).
