Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Try This:

I started to write that I would be focusing on the basics this week:
  • track what I eat
  • schedule exercise time in my day
  • keep portion sizes reasonable
  • eat a good breakfast
  • get more fun & play into my day
  • go to bed at a reasonable time
And then I began journaling my desired outcome -- back to my healthy BMI of 160# (I've been fluctuating at 3 to 7 pounds over it).  I noted that 160# isn't really my desired outcome but getting back to the behaviors and habits (see list above) that make that number possible is what I want.  I started with tracking what I eat and asked myself what would that do for me?  As I wrote I realized that one of the reasons I overeat is to feel full.  And one of the reasons I want to feel full is so that I feel my body; that I connect with my body.  And immediately I acknowledged there are much better ways of connecting with my body than by overeating.  I could do yoga, meditate, 5 minutes of breathing, get a massage, or any number of things.  This week I will be focusing on connecting with my body and playing with all the ways to make that happen.

What will you connect with this week?

How'd it go?

Did you focus on the goals you could control last week?

I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
