Aloha,
Wow! My adventure started over a month and a half ago and I have so many ideas and insights to share. But to prevent overwhelm I'll limit it to a few at a time.
My adventure started with a week spent with over 700 other Professional Organizers and Productivity Specialists from around the country and even some from around the world. I passed my Level II examination on Chronic Disorganization, and as soon as I get home to access a file I need to complete my certification, I will be a Specialist in Chronic Disorganization . Which leads me to the topic below -- tools to access your computer files while away from your main computer. See what software I've found that will keep me mobile and productive in Access Files on the Go.
Another insight I gained on this trip is the emotional importance of a clean space. I had just finished clearing the living room of a client's house that was being prepared for sale. The personal items that were to be kept were packed away, the items that were in good enough shape to be donated were in their bags and boxes by the door and everything else had been removed. It had been a lot of work and I should have focused on what had been accomplished. Instead, since I was tired, I focused on all the work ahead and I wondered if we could do it in the time required.
But I decided to do one last bit of work and vacuum the floor. Normally I would move on and save that bit of clean-up for the end of the project or leave it to the client to do. But thankfully, I decided to grab the vacuum and do 10 more minutes of work. And that 10 minutes changed my attitude and my understanding.
Seeing the floor clear of bits and pieces of paper, dirt and whatnot gave me back my confidence to keep moving forward, a step at a time. The floor wasn't actually clean, as the rug still needed to be shampooed, but that visually cleared space that the vacuum created brought my awareness back to the success we had accomplished and it brought a sense of peace with it.
So now I will end all of my major de-cluttering sessions with a swept or vacuumed space, no matter how large or small the space is or how many boxes still remain. That small oasis of a clean space with visible bits of trash & dirt removed can be the difference between overwhelm and hope.
If you want help organizing your computer files to go mobile or need support in clearing your clutter, call me at 808.969.3800 or email me at dhucks@dhucks.com I can help over the phone (almost anywhere), as well as in-person (Big Island residents only).

Access Files on the Go
| | As I was preparing for my trip in April, I once again reminded myself that I was going to make working away from home easier next time. My intention was to find some options for backing up, storing and accessing files from anywhere. Luckily enough several workshops at the NAPO conference were on the subject of mobile productivity.
For this trip, I had started to utilize Google Docs and that worked okay. But one option that kept coming up in the workshop discussions was Dropbox. I tried it and I love it. It was easy to figure out and I can access my files from any of my computers (whether I'm online or not), from my iPhone or from a secure webpage if I'm at a client's.
Another option you might try if Dropbox doesn't work for you is SugarSync; or Mozy if you only want to backup your files. Here's a comparison of all three.
I chose Dropbox because it was mentioned most often; and since it accomplished everything I wanted with no frustration or irritation, I didn't really look any further. I try not to spend my time searching for the perfect solution when I have a great solution in my hands.

| 15 Minutes or Less |
- Vacuum or sweep the available floor space in the area you want to declutter and organize.
- Shred a handful of papers from your "to shred" pile.
- Or, move the shredder closer and shred as you go.
- Set one bill up for automatic payment.
- Take that bag of donations you've been waiting to add to (for weeks) and put it in the car for drop off tomorrow.
- Go through your May IDEA Box file.
- Take a look at previous 15 Minutes or Less ideas.

Whether you set up your files for access on the go, sweep the floor around your organizing project or pick one 15 minute idea to try, add "enjoy the moment" to your things to do.
