Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

It's time for me to talk about salt.  I wouldn't have thought to mention salt but a family member's health concerns are now getting me to look at sodium in addition to calories, fat, protein, and added sugar.  I know that I like my salt a bit too much but never focused on how much I was getting in my food before now.  This will actually help me to maintain my healthy weight because most of the easy processed foods that I've been relying on for a quick meal is loaded with salt.  The packaged lasagna that fit into my plan is no longer going to be a mainstay; now I'll be using the slow cooker recipe I have.  The chicken that I kept on hand for quick meals is processed with added broth, flavorings and salt, so I'll be buying the "all natural" chicken breasts.  And since many canned vegetables have added salt, I'll be using a lot more fresh vegetables.  Looking at the sodium in the foods I buy means that I have one more reason to choose local fresh fruits, vegetables and meat.

Will you look at the added sodium in your foods this week?
How'd it go?

I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
