I've written about goals and goal setting; I've mentioned making SMART and SMARTER goals; and I've set my own goals for the year. One goal is to schedule in more activities that bring balance and joy to my life. When I have balance and joy in my life, I am more likely to make better eating choices.
One day I was challenged to fit my usual enjoyments in (drinking my morning coffee in the garden, playing with the dogs, a walk) when I realized that I had too narrowly defined what activities brought me balance & joy.
First, I was thinking it had to be a large chunk of time. But 5 minutes watching the ocean can be enough to recharge. So enjoy pockets of sanity in your busy day.
Secondly, I was thinking that I had to be laughing or lounging. But cleaning the car out, though seen as a chore, can actually can bring peace and happiness. Just think about the smile on your face as you get into a cleaner, neater car on Monday. Or the better choices you can make when you've done the shopping and your pantry is stocked with healthier foods.
And lastly, I was thinking it had to be exercise, meditation or the like. But scheduling your annual check-up, having a massage or even getting a haircut helps you maintain your body and mind.
I need to remember to keep the definition of what constitutes Balance & Joy very broad.
