It has been a great week for growing my business, building new connections and making current relationships even stronger. My energy level is high and I'm willing to move forward in directions where a year ago I was too afraid to go. Life is great. And yet I know that unless I take some time off to relax and be quiet, I'll burn out. And then I'll lose all that I have gained.
It is actually hard to slow down at this time since the motivation is high and the fear is low. I usually wait until I crash. But I'm already starting to see my food choices slip more into sweets and fried foods (my fuel of choice for zinging along at an unsustainable pace). It's great to have the energy and see the forward progress, but part of living a balanced life is taking those breaks to relax, re-energize, rejuvenate, and re-connect in order to come back stronger.
It's like training for an endurance event in weekly intervals. Week 1 through 3 you build up distance and speed, but week 4 is always, always a rest week. You train slower and shorter than you did in week 1, so that your body can recover. Then the next 3 weeks you are back to training faster and longer. Then rest and recover. Rest and recover to come back even stronger.
Can you rest and recover this week?

KNOW What You Want
NO What You Don't Want
Sometimes we take on more and more because we don't say "no". Check out some ways to say "no" at dhucks.com/NoWhatYouDontWant.html. But there is something missing on that page -- saying "no" to things you do want but aren't a priority. Many of the things I've said yes to this month are definitely things I wanted, but now I'm having to prioritize.

For those of you on the Big Island On Friday, January 28, I will host (along with Kittie Kennedy) the Hawai'i Island Chamber of Commerce's first Brown Bag Lunch of 2011. It is open to everyone (members and non-members) and it's FREE.
Jeannette Baysa with Hilo Coffee Mill will be talking about the rewards, challenges and branding opportunities for "Buy Local". Mike Gleason with The Arc of Hilo will be sharing information on their upcoming food processing facility for local farmers and small businesses. If you are interested, click on Brown Bag Lunch for more information and to register.
