Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Last week I suggested making both SMART and SMARTER goals.

This week I am focusing on making sure that each goal is Aligned with who I am TODAY and what I value.  It's crucial to future success and it's trickier than I imagined.  I say this because my goal hasn't really changed in 5 years, but I have.  So now is the time to Revisit also.

In 2005, when I started this latest segment of my weight loss journey, my goal was to "lose weight".  I established what I would do and how I would accomplish that.  And I did it!  I achieved the weight loss goal I had set.  But now, I'm wondering, how a particular number (155#) is in alignment with who I am TODAY.  Or rather, I think that that number no longer provides a complete picture of who I am and what I value.

I think my next goal needs to lead to something larger and more comprehensive than just a number on the scale.  It needs to include the concept of living a more balanced life, laughing more, walking stronger, connecting with my self, as well as others, and enjoying the journey.  I don't have any goal in mind at the moment, but as I begin searching for my next adventure, I will keep this idea of Alignment in mind.

If you're having a hard time reaching your goal,
maybe you and your goal are no longer in Alignment.

Is your goal in ALIGNMENT this week?
How'd it go?

My Journey:
Shawndra's AFTER
I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
