What difference does 5 pounds make?
I've asked myself this question for awhile now. My healthy weight range begins at 160 pounds though I had set a personal goal of 155 pounds way back when (2006). But lately as I've moved beyond the thrill of losing and into the reality of maintaining, my old habits and old ways of thinking creep back in now and again. So then I find myself wondering why 155 is so important when I would still be considered at a healthy weight at 160 pounds. Why is that 5 pound difference so important to me?
My 'aha' -- 155 pounds tells me that I've been getting enough exercise, I've been focusing on eating healthier foods and my indulgences are special occasions, not everyday occurrences. The closer I get to 160, the further away I get from making healthier activities and healthier choices a part of my day.
That 5 pounds isn't about impressing anyone, magically solving all my problems or getting into a little black dress. It reflects my healthier choices. So yes, I'm shooting for 155, and at the same time, I still give myself a lot of credit for staying in my healthy range; because that is a huge deal and something I've never done for this long before.
What number reflects your healthier choices?
