Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Try This:

I'd like to walk my talk, but I'm busy on the computer right now.  All the hats I wear are about helping others to live a healthier and more balanced life with the intention of living that way myself, but I get side tracked by wanting to finish this or complete that or just do one more thing.  We are all so busy trying to get the job done that we forget to move.   And of course the technology that was created to make our lives easier is also making our lives more sedentary.  So this week I'm evaluating where I can add more movement back into my daily activities and tasks.

There are the usual ways:
  • park further from the store entrance
  • take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • lift weights, stand up and stretch or march in place during TV commercials
  • take a stretch break every hour when you're on the computer (set a timer to remind you to get up and move)
  • wash your own car
  • turn on the music and dance while your cooking or cleaning
I could also...
  • walk the long way around the block
  • suggest walking meetings instead instead of sit down meetings
  • carry fewer bags of groceries at one time so I make more trips
  • walk or stand when I'm on the phone
  • use an exercise ball as my desk chair (this helps improve my balance and I get extra steps chasing it around my office)
  • walk all the way around the store before I start shopping
If you have additional ideas to get more activity into your daily tasks, please send them to me and I will share them with everyone next week.

Where can you add more movement into your daily activity?
How'd it go?

Did you decrease your added sugar last week?

My Journey:
Shawndra's AFTER
I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
