Small Steps
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

| | Could you give up sweets for a week or maybe
more? Would you even consider it?
I've ignored the advice of an untold number of
weight-loss books that
recommended I give up sugar, especially processed sugars. But I
refused each time. I turned the page and thought "NO WAY." Sure, I've
decreased my sugar intake, but never with any serious
intention of a long-term across the board change.
But sometimes it takes the right moment and all the previous small
steps in order to take what could be considered a big step.
I'm not telling you that you should give up sweets. I'm suggesting you
think about it.
I'm suggesting that for the next week you note how you feel after you
eat something sweet For
me, I noticed my energy plummeted almost immediately. I noticed that
one or
two pieces of chocolate wasn't enough anymore; I wanted more and more. I noticed that I was reaching for food more often out of
emotional reasons.
When you're ready, I'm suggesting that you try giving up sweets for a
week and note how
you feel then. I've noticed that I don't have the intense cravings for
sweets that I did. I've noticed that fruits are sweeter, actually a
lot of things are sweeter. I've noticed that I haven't had an eating
binge since I
quit sweets. And of course my energy hasn't dropped.
I like what giving up sweets has done for me. I'll keep at it.
Will you pay attention to how sweets effect you this week? Will you give up sweets for a week?
