Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Try This:

Last week I wrote about what I wanted to be able to do when I'm 85.  I closed that article with the feeling that I had left something out, but I couldn't think of what it was.  Thankfully several of you knew what it was -- it's never too late to start.

Whether you're 35, 75, 86 or any other age, you can make the next year better, healthier & happier. Start where you are now and move forward. Try something new. Try something you haven't tried since you were a kid. Take a small step or a huge leap, but START!

Try Zumba, Latin-rhythms and easy-to-follow moves. Several people mentioned Zumba to me this week -- sounds like fun for everyone. Here's one site you can use to find a Zumba class near you (p.s. ignore the distances they give, they aren't accurate).  search.zumba.com/classes

What will you try this week?

How'd it go?

What activity did you focus on last week?

Does a triathlon interest (and maybe intimidate you)?
  • Try a Danskin Triathlon.  A women's-only sprint (shorter not faster) triathlon that is an amazing event to be a part of.  Locations throughout the mainland.  www.danskintriathlon.net
  • For men and women, try BeginnerTriathlete.com.  Looks like a very supportive site for those who want to lose weight by training for a triathlon.
Team Survivor-- groups/teams that focus on fun group exercise opportunities and support programs for women with a present or past diagnosis of cancer. At present there is no Team in Hawaii, but you can start one.

My Journey:
Shawndra's AFTER
I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
