Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with
a single step.

Try This:

When I'm 85...

I want to wake up in the morning and get out of bed. I want to be able to carry a pot full of water from the sink to the stove. I want to be able to grab 3 bags of groceries and carry them all in at once (since I'm too lazy to make multiple trips). I want to get out of a chair on the first try and stand up straight. I want to look over my shoulder without having to turn my whole body. I want to walk a 5k as a matter of course and train for a half-marathon just 'cause I can. I want to be walking strong when I'm 85.

I want to be happy and healthy when I'm 85. Is it going to take work? Yes! Because it does take more effort to keep muscle tone and flexibility as we age. Is it worth the effort? I think so. So now's the time for me to get up and get going, since I only have 40 years to prep. I am getting more steps each day (even on the less active days) but now I want to build strength and flexibility (and be more consistent). That's my focus this week and I'll start by doing 20 minutes of a strength training DVD at least 3 days a week.

What activity will you focus on this week?
Cardio, Strength or Flexibility?
How'd it go?

What did you appreciate last week?

My Journey:
Shawndra's AFTER
I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
