I don't have fat jeans and skinny jeans anymore. Instead, I have clothes that fall into new categories. There are the clothes I can wear when I'm in training for an event such as running a 5k or competing in a sprint triathalon -- those would be my in-training jeans. The couch-potato jeans are gone and I have every intention of keeping them out of my life.
There are two more categories -- active and get moving. When I make my walks, yoga and other activities a priority; when I'm actively aware of what I'm eating and what I'm doing; I wear my active jeans and they fit great. But when I've lost the focus on taking care of me, the active jeans become a bit too tight. That's when I have to pull out the get moving jeans.
Now I am a firm believer in letting go of clothes that no longer fit and clearing the space in your closet for living in the Now. However, I discovered that the different clothes weren't about my weight but more about my current focus. So I'm using the new category names to motivate me. Instead of pulling on my fat jeans I can pull on my get moving jeans and remind myself to get my steps in today. Instead of giving away my size 8/10 jeans that don't fit today, I can put them in a container marked IN-TRAINING and say 'yes, someday I will again be in training for an event!' and know it's true. And my get moving jeans are NOT two sizes bigger than I'm wearing now. That would be the couch-potato jeans and remember, I have no intention of going back there.
This weekend, I'm putting my categories into action by going through my closet; boxing up the in-training clothes and labeling the container(s); pulling out the active clothes that don't currently fit and temporarily putting those into a container that's labeled ACTIVE; and ensuring that all my get moving clothes make me feel great -- now. I'll let go of everything else.
