I'm looking back on 2009 and identifying what worked and what didn't. Giving myself credit for my successes as well as my attempts. Being honest about the challenges I faced. It's embarrassing to admit that this year has been harder than any
other. I've gained some weight back (I'm 7 pounds over goal), mainly because I returned to some
old eating habits and stopped getting my activity in.
Here's why this year has been the hardest -- I stayed aware of where I was going. I was aware of my choices (the good and the less than good). I kept weighing in each week even as I watched the scale move up. And that is why I still see this year as a success. I didn't turn away from the knowledge and then eat & sit my way back up to 200+ pounds, which I have done before.
This time I've stayed aware of my choices even when they weren't supportive of my overall intention of maintaining my weight. THAT is the win for me. This time, I slipped and got back up -- again and again and again. But I got back up and kept going.
I'm looking ahead to 2010 and thinking about where I'm going, how I will get there and where Small Steps will lead. I'm thinking fruits & vegetables are in my future, as well as discussions on portion sizes and walking more. I also see learning to savor the food I eat and enjoying the company I keep.
What do you see when you look back this week?
