I hurt my knee this weekend. After I got settled on the couch with ice and ibuprofen, I realized that this was going to put a real wrench in my exercise plan. I had just gotten re-motivated and results were showing (beginning to lose the 5 lbs that I had put back on, more energy and I was looking forward to my exercise time). My first thought was -- "Now what? I can't exercise." But then I realized I was using my inability to walk as an excuse to not exercise. I could still exercise.
I could do:
- upper body strength training;
- sitting leg lifts (carefully with the injured knee);
- chair yoga (just ordered the DVD);
- swimming (breast stroke & back stroke are easiest for using only arms);
- look for a local Sit & Fit type class;
- Upper Body Ergometer (UBE) or a hand cycle (I'd have to find out if there is any gym here that has one); or
- swing my arms like I'm walking fast or running (while sitting in a chair).
So in other words, I can continue to exercise I just need to try another way.
Can you try another way this week?

Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
