Small Steps
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Part of the journey is celebrating all of you, and that may mean learning to embrace that part you aren't happy with. Here's my ode to my thighs & hips:
I'm sorry for the years and decades I've spent hating and despising you and calling you names. At the best of times I just ignored you. But you've been there regardless. You've been doing what you were made to do with only minor complaints.
You carried me where I wanted to go. You provided a seat for dogs, cats & kids and a pillow for a lover's head. You allowed me to sit and listen to stories and learn new things. You kept pumping as I swam, biked and ran my way across the finish line. You grew strong and flexible as I held downward facing dog a little bit longer. You swayed to the beat of the music even when it was only in my imagination. You closed car doors when my hands were full. You propelled me upwards as I jumped in celebration. You stored the extra calories I took in when I dealt with life by eating; and You let them go again when I learned better ways to handle stress. You reminded me, quite loudly, to slow down and stretch; but You were willing to keep going once I did. Thank you for all the steps, hops and skips that were possible because of you.
It's been a long journey towards acceptance, but I see a different beauty in my thighs now. Sure they aren't the thin, toned and sleek ones that I always thought I wanted, but I see and accept them for what they are. Thighs. Human thighs. Good quality and useful. They're MINE and I'm keeping them.
What body part will you celebrate, enjoy or accept this week?

The secret of health for mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
