Small Steps

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Try This:

I think I forgot to take my own advice:  Take small steps toward a healthier life and a healthier weight.  I was trying to make major changes to my schedule and lifestyle and of course feeling guilty when I didn't live up to the new plan.

So instead of feeling guilty about not getting my strength training workout in three times a week, I'm adding one small strength building exercise to the end of my walk.

  • To strengthen my hip and leg muscles -- step-ups
or
  • To build my arm and chest muscles -- wall push-ups
You may think a small step like this isn't much--and it isn't--but that means it's not overwhelming or time consuming.  Exactly what I want.  And once I get into the habit of taking a few minutes to do these exercises,  I can add another small exercise and soon, I will have easily and comfortably created a routine of strengthening exercises.

What small step will you take this week?
How'd it go?

Where did your steps lead you last week?

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.

My Journey:
Shawndra's AFTER
I've lost weight twice before but I gained it back eventually.  This time I'm determined to keep it off and I realize that it's not a one time fix.  It's a journey.  And as with all great journeys, you learn as you go.

I take these small steps with you each week because I also need to build and maintain the habits and behaviors that support me in my journey.  Thanks for joining me each week.  Have fun and enjoy your life!
