Small Steps

I stood there in my bathroom asking myself, " If weight wasn't the focus what would I do just for the health of it? What change would I make to get healthier (and happier)?"
The first thing that jumped to mind was that I could give up a lot of guilt and angst. I would celebrate that I walked 10 minutes instead of thinking of the 40 minutes that I didn't walk today. I would enjoy gardening one week and yoga the next and think it was all good. I would rejoice in my having cut back on sweets and added one more fruit to my day (even if I still ate some cookies and didn't get all 5 of my servings of fruits & veggies). When it comes to health, I'm less judgemental about not being perfect, and so, more willing to try it again tomorrow.
Aren't healthy choices the same choices that will support a healthy weight? You bet. But I think there's a lot more emotional baggage associated with my weight than with my health. So by making choices based on health, I think I'm more likely to make positive changes that I can do for the rest of my life; for body, mind & spirit.
If you weren't worried about the weight, what small step would you take just for the health of it?
