Announcing Independence and Name Change |
We, at the WNY Women's Fund, are excited for the upcoming announcement of the transition to The WNY Women's Foundation, Inc. as of January 1, 2012. The organization, formerly a program of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, will be a separate 501(c) 3 organization.
The WNY Women's Foundation will have greater ability to advocate on behalf of women and girls on critical issues impacting their lives. According to Heather Filipowicz, executive director of the Foundation, "The United Way and Community Foundation have been wonderful partners to the organization and we are grateful for their support and the resources they have provided. We believe that we are now poised for the next level of systems change work, including advocacy, and support for women and girls. Becoming a standalone organization will give us greater flexibility in how we can tackle some of the most pressing issues facing females in our community."
In addition to the name change, The WNY Women's Foundation will also unveil a new brand identity that includes an updated logo for the organization. A formal announcement to supporters, partners and community leaders is scheduled for February. The Foundation will remain in their current offices at 742 Delaware Ave. in the United Way building.
